While Bob Geldof is supporting Africa's poor with the Live8 concert in Hyde Park, Croydon art lovers can do the same thanks to an exhibition at a south London coffee shop.
Visitors can purchase the artists' work with all profits going towards the work of Education Action International in Sudan.
Independent coffee shop Pepperton UK is hosting an exhibition of art and photography to raise awareness of poverty and the conflict in the Sudan in partnership with the charity Education Action International.
The exhibition, Spirit of Sudan, was launched with a private viewing of photographs, paintings and sculptures by Ron Coello and Richard Plummer in the coffee shop's art gallery.
The event was opened by the musician, writer and artist, George Melly.
Photographer Ron Coello said: "Despite the poverty and conflict that has practically destroyed the country, the strength and determination of the people I met was remarkable.
The schools are built from mud, the classes are overcrowded with little or no resources, yet children love going to school and getting an education."
The exhibition is a result of a visit by both artists to Sudan earlier this year and it is hoped it will give an insight into the situation of refugees and displaced people in Sudan and their attempts to gain an education, despite ongoing conflict in some parts of the country.
Spirit of Sudan will be on show at Pepperton UK's gallery, in Selhurst Road, Selhurst, until July 21. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 12pm to 10pm and Sundays, 12pm to 6pm.
