Washington gallery promotes Islamic Art


 

Washington’s National Art Gallery on 4th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW is devoting a family weekend to the promotion of Islamic Art.

 

 

 

WHEN:           SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

                        SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

           

  WHAT:         MUSICAL PERFORMANCES

                        Saturday and Sunday at 12, 1, and 3:00 p.m.   

                        Sharq Arabic Music Ensemble

                        East Building

                                               

                        CHILDREN’S HANDS-ON ART ACTIVITIES

                        Saturday and Sunday, all day

                        Kids can color shapes and patterns found in Islamic art and paint a                                                        ceramic tile to take home. 

 

                        MEET THE AUTHOR

                        Saturday, 11:00 a.m.

                        East Building Auditorium

                        Author-illustrator David Macaulay will talk about the making of his most                                    recent book, Mosque, and reveal how the monumental structures were                                    designed, constructed, and decorated.  A book signing will follow

                       

                        TOURS OF THE EXHIBITION

                        Saturday and Sunday, all day

                        Visitors can pick up a family activity sheet and explore the exhibition                              Palace and Mosque: Islamic Art from the Victoria and Albert Museum, on                     view through February 6

                        Saturday, 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.

                        East Building Small Auditorium

                        Live-action film and animation illustrates the planning, building, and                                 cultural importance of the Gothic cathedral in France.

 

                        *Castle

                        Saturday, 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

                        East Building Small Auditorium

                        Visions of knights in shinning armor, wondrous tales of chivalry

                       

                        EXHIBITON SHOPS

An extraordinary array of jewelry and textiles, posters, stationery products, culinary items, sterling silver, leather, candles, CDs of classic Islamic music, DVDs, books, and other educational items related to Islamic culture.
